ROLE: Design Researcher / Facilitator
Overview:
During my tenure at Scenario Lab, a design agency in Taiwan from 2013-2014, I had the privilege of working as a design researcher. My role involved conducting research to support explorative design and future research projects for clients spanning various industries, including Amway, BenQ, and the Taipei City Government.
The Power of Modularized Knowledge:
The scenario-oriented design process focuses on exploring innovative solutions. To effectively harness this approach, we adopted a concept of modularizing knowledge obtained from field studies, with particular emphasis on the experiences of pioneering users and forward-thinking design trends. By breaking down these design elements into modular units, akin to building blocks, we could easily construct scenarios and develop ideas that encompassed future possibilities within the broader context of business strategy.

Crafting the Scenario: From 1D to 4D:
1D: Our journey begins with a single idea, which we bring to life through rapid prototyping and iterative testing.

2D: We then map out the ideas along a timeline, creating customer journeys that enable us to visualize the user experience over time.

3D: The next step involves translating these ideas into tangible experiences within a real-world context, constructing immersive scenarios that showcase the potential impact of our designs.

4D: To further enhance the authenticity of the scenarios, we immerse ourselves in the environment and observe how the design elements interact, gaining valuable insights and refining the experience.

Bringing the Future Closer:
Renowned author William Gibson once said, "The future is already there, it's just not evenly distributed." In our scenario-oriented process, we not only polish our ideas but also transform them into actionable practices. An example of this approach is evident in our collaboration with Amway, where we designed a future retail store that embodies the essence of our scenario-driven methodology.

Conclusion:
By leveraging the power of scenario-oriented design, modularizing knowledge, and seamlessly integrating forward-thinking ideas into real-world scenarios, we enabled our clients to explore innovative solutions and shape the future of their respective industries. Through this iterative and immersive process, we successfully bridged the gap between imagination and practicality, unlocking the potential for transformative design experiences.
